The appointment was announced by Sir Geoffrey Holland, chair of LSDA. John Stone is currently Principal of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College and is the Learning and Skills Council representative on the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). John spent his earlier career in a variety of teaching and management posts in the learning and skills sector. John Stone said: "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to make a major contribution to post-16 education and training in a new and exciting way. LSN, in taking forward the delivery work of the LSDA, will look to support our sector further as it grows and develops." Announcing the appointment, Sir Geoffrey Holland said: "John brings with him an extraordinary energy and excitement for the role. His enthusiasm is matched by a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing not just LSN, but our sector as a whole. " At the end of March 2006, LSDA will evolve into two separate organisations. Its policy and strategic work will develop into the Quality Improvement Agency for Lifelong Learning, a non-departmental public body whose objective will be to provide a strategic focus for quality improvement in the learning and skills sector. LSDA's existing programmes, research, training and consultancy work will continue under the banner of the Learning and Skills Network (LSN).
