Zulfi is Chief Executive of Leeds-based international management consulting company Global Synergy Solutions and founder of the charity Global Promise. He is also a member of BT Regional Board for Yorks and Humber. "I’m delighted to have been elected," said Zulfi. "The EMCC is an outstanding organisation, unique in that it not only brings the fields of coaching and mentoring together but also in its inclusivity, which has attracted a wide range of members including practitioners, training providers, associations, academics and researchers. "This year will see us work towards a number of goals, including establishing the new EMCC Quality Award for training providers across the UK, and helping to establish it across Europe. We believe this is a very important step forward for coaching and mentoring as it will enable training providers to make the qualifications they offer widely and immediately recognisable. This will not only help raise standards but will also make choosing a coach or mentor easier for clients. "We’ll also be continuing our research as well as our work on standards and ethics and embedding into our new structure as EMCC UK while continuing to play a major role within the EMCC in Europe."
LSC appoints nine new regional chairs The Learning and Skills Council (LSC)has announced the appointment of nine regional chairs who will lead regional boards. Chris Banks, chairman of the LSC said: "The regional chairs have been appointed to ensure that national and regional priorities are delivered in a way that best meets local needs. "The Boards will support and work closely with the regional director and other senior members of the executive team. They will be responsible for promoting the LSC regionally to external organisations as well as building and maintaining connections with stakeholders and partners, encouraging them to work positively with the LSC. "The new regional chairs will help ensure that the work we do is meeting the needs of learners and employers effectively. I know that they and the regional boards will play a critical role in delivering our objectives. All the regional chairs are already chairs of local LSC’s and will bring closer links between the local, regional and national activities of the organisation." The Regional Chairs are:
New team to work with environmental conservation industry Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based sector, has appointed Tim Drew and Hayley Campbell-Gibbons as industry partnership managers. Their roles will involve working closely with the environmental conservation industry, its employers and representatives throughout the UK to help ensure the views of the industry are represented on the skills agenda. Hayley Campbell-Gibbons has an educational background in environmental conservation and started her career as graduate trainee in the industry. Her new role will complement her existing role of Regional Partnership Manager for the West Midlands. "Lantra have completed the first three stages of the research which will form the basis of an action plan to influence government and re-shape the supply of funding, training and business support for the environmental conservation industry." Lantra says it is working with partners to develop an action plan to address the issues raised in the research and to take the agreement into the next stage. One of the proposals is the development of a business competency framework that links to a skills passport. The scheme could recognise formal accredited qualifications, vocational courses and experience which could provide the passport holder with evidence of a defined career structure and help present a professional image. Hayley Campbell-Gibbons added: "This work is extremely important for the industry, as potentially it will change the way that training is delivered and funded. We want employers to contact us and let us know what they have to say on the issues of training so that we can ensure that Lantra's work is accurate and relevant to them."
