Finalists announced for John Sainsbury Award for Learning and Development

IGD has announced the finalists for the John Sainsbury Award for Learning and Development, part of the 2004 IGD Food Industry Awards.

A shortlist of four companies has been selected to compete for the prize, which recognises real commitment to people development, and which will be presented to the winning company on 19th October.

The companies battling it out for the trophy this year are:

Budgens

‘Fresh Food Training for Fresh Food Teams’ is a development programme working with suppliers to train staff on fresh product knowledge, enabling them to provide facts, knowledge and anecdotes to customers and increase sales of fresh foods.

Britvic

The Customer Management Academy is a tailored training solution for national account team and line managers. The Academy was implemented in February 2003 and has so far run 54 courses, covered 455 delegates and achieved 1,090 training days.

The Co-operative Group

‘Eureka’ is a board game which delivers customer service training for all teams from the smallest to the largest stores. It allows staff to learn in a fun and interactive way. Benefits include improved morale and teamwork, reinforced job satisfaction and a decrease in customer complaints.

Moy Park

Has developed an ‘Essential Skills Program’ for addressing a numeracy and literacy gap and ensuring that all avenues of communication are made available to all employees. The program includes literacy, numeracy and keyboard skills and benefits include increased efficiency, morale and profit.

The winner will be announced at the Food Industry Awards ceremony on Tuesday 19th October at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
