Home > News > October 2004 > 22-Oct-2004 WWP and TfL win national training awardWWP, in conjunction with Transport for London, were presented with a Highly Commended Award at the National Training Awards ceremony in London earlier this month.
WWP and Transport for London (TfL) won their award for a project designed to improve the computer skills of 1300 TfL employees when control of London Underground transferred to the Mayor of London and TfL last year. TfL was introducing a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and, to fully exploit its capabilities, 1200 users needed to become proficient in its use. A further 90 employees from the legal department needed bringing up to speed in general IT skills. "It was recognised that, in a short space of time, nearly 1300 people needed to improve their IT competence in a variety of applications." said Daniel Church, Support Manager in TfL Management Development. WWP used a mix of formal one-to-one training, informal support and on-line hints and tips that covered 40 key tasks that the ERP users need to know." For the legal staff, who ranged in abilities from non-PC users to advanced users needing specialist training, WWP provided coaching, half-day workshops and one-day courses. The training was based on a learning needs analysis which helped ensure that the training was targeted and relevant to each member of staff. Church added: "Feedback from staff indicated that the programme was a great success and now it has been validated by the presentation of this prestigious award.
