IGD challenges companies to demonstrate excellence in people development

IGD is challenging companies in the food and grocery sector to demonstrate their commitment to people development and will reward the best at the IGD Food Industry Awards.

At last year’s awards, the John Sainsbury Award for Learning and Development was won by Musgrave Budgens-Londis for its ‘Fresh Food Training for Fresh Food Teams’ initiative.

As part of the retailer’s objective to deliver good quality fresh food, Musgrave Budgens-Londis wanted to increase enthusiasm for fresh foods in-store and give staff the expertise and confidence to offer advice on products. The resulting initiative saw suppliers training staff on fresh produce knowledge, helping them to provide facts, knowledge and anecdotes to consumers and increase fresh food sales.

The judges remarked of the entry “This initiative demonstrated how learning and development strategies can really add value to a business. It showed innovation through collaborating with suppliers and empowering its staff. The initiative is sustainable and is delivering real results to the bottom line.”

Head of Training and Development at Musgrave Budgens-Londis, Paul Danes, said “Entering the Food Industry Awards was a challenging yet fun experience. Winning encouraged a large team to be proud of their achievements.”

The closing date for entries to the 2005 awards is Friday 15th July. The winners will be announced at the IGD Food Industry Awards ceremony on Tuesday 18th October at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. Tickets are priced £195 each.
