The award was made in recognition of the development of a new framework for a foundation degree in food and drink manufacturing. Jack Matthews, chief executive of Improve, commented: "It is hugely rewarding to have our efforts recognised by those within the industry. Improve developed the foundation degree framework with the help of many employers, trade bodies and research institutions. "It was developed in response to the shortage of people at technical and management levels in food and drink manufacturing. We identified foundation degrees as providing a key bridge between the academic, vocational, and work experience routes into a career in our industry. With the new framework, we can ensure courses attract students and produce graduates who are ready immediately to take up specific roles, with skills that meet employers' needs." The awards are voted for by readers of Food Marketing and Manufacturing Magazine. The magazine's editor Nicci Piggott said: "Improve was clearly the most popular choice in this category. Employers have given the framework their full support and recognise its importance in boosting skills within food and drink manufacturing." The awards ceremony was held at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London and was hosted by celebrity TV chef Brian Turner.
