IMI wins motor industry training award

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and its Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) has won the Automotive Management (AM) Training Award. The AM Awards were held at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham on Wednesday 22 February.

On winning the Training Award, Sarah Sillars, chief executive of the IMI said: "For ATA to be recognised in this way is a tremendous testament to the team effort that went into making Automotive Technician Accreditation a reality. With more than 1,000 technicians already accredited and a further 700 who have registered their participation so far, this initiative has galvanised the sector into seeing the value of recognising proven current competence which is linked to a robust code of ethical behaviour."

The Training award was sponsored for the second year in a row by Automotive Skills, the Sector Skills Council for the retail motor industry. The organisations short listed for the award were Nationwide Auto Centres, Volkswagen Group, Alliance Consultancy, Kia Motors, BMW Group, IMI for ATA and Proficiency Solutions.

Patricia Richards, chief executive of Automotive Skills said: "We are delighted to be involved again this year with the sponsorship of the Automotive Management Training Award.

"This Award distinguishes organisations that are of the highest standard and Automotive Skills are delighted to be able recognise and reward their efforts and dedication to training in the industry. We would like to congratulate both the IMI for their triumph with ATA and the BMW Group who were highly commended for their apprenticeship programme. The IMI with ATA and other short listed organisations are leading the way in quality training and skills development and we wish them all every success in the future."
