Nominations open for 2006 Skills for Care awards

Skills for Care is seeking nominations for this year's Accolades, the award scheme designed to celebrate best practice in social care workforce development.

Social care organisations have the chance to win one of twelve awards from a variety of categories, plus one overall winner of winners award.

As with previous years, the categories for the awards are designed to commend workforce development that demonstrates particular aspects of the national training strategy, 'Modernising the Social Care Workforce'.

CEO of Skills for Care, Andrea Rowe said: "Now in its fourth year, the Accolades has grown to become one of the most prestigious events in the social care calendar, and to win one is proof positive of excellence in workforce development best practice."

The categories for this year's awards are:

  • Best employer of over 250 staff
  • Best employer of up to 250 staff
  • Best employer promoting continuing professional development
  • Best training provider/assessment centre
  • Best in-house training provider/assessment centre
  • Best involver of service users/carers (Adult services)
  • Most innovative and effective entry to the workforce initiative
  • Most innovative learning resource
  • Most effective partnership for workforce development
  • Most innovative model of work based learning
  • Best involver of service users/carers (children and young people's services)
  • Most effective multi-disciplinary workforce development programme

Skills for Care says an independent judging panel will select the winners based on their ability to demonstrate successful use of the Skills for Care national training strategy, the GSCC Codes of Practice, the Investors in People standards and benchmarks from the government's National Training Awards scheme.

Winners receive an Accolade 2006 trophy designed exclusively for Skills for Care by art students from Stockport College.

Nominations open on April 10 2006 and nominators have until June 16 2006 to submit their entries, stating who they think deserves to win an award for workforce development in the social care sector, and why.
