North West celebrates National Training Award winners

Six organisations and individuals from the North West have won National Training Awards. The winners were presented with a golden invitation to the UK gala ceremony on 14th December at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London, where they will receive their trophies.

Television presenter Suzi Perry made the presentations at a ceremony held earlier this month at the Palace Hotel in Manchester.

A further ten organisations and individuals received North West Training Awards at the event while Highly Commended awards were given to another five.

The National Training Award winners from the North West were:

  • Optimum Contact Solutions, Manchester
  • RBS Insurance (Direct Line Brand), Manchester
  • Fairbairn Private Bank Limited, Douglas
  • Burnley College, Burnley
  • Karen James
  • Paul Irving

North West Training Award winners comprised:

  • First Trans Pennine Express, Manchester
  • Pipex Home Call, Manchester
  • Ashtead Plant Hire Company Ltd, Salford, in partnership with Ian Woodward (DLD Solutions), Luton
  • First Choice Holidays, Salford, in partnership with Blue Sky Consulting, Guildford, City & Guilds Award Winner
  • Darran Glenn Yates, Wigan
  • Johnsons Apparelmaster, Bootle
  • Everyday Financial Solutions, Bootle
  • Mersey Care NHS Trust, Liverpool
  • United Utilities North West, Hoscar, in partnership with C2B Media Limited, Sheffield
  • Legal & Trade Financial Services Ltd, Preston

The following organisations won Highly Commended awards:

  • Brunner Mond, Northwich
  • Merseyside Society for Deaf People, Liverpool
  • Royal & SunAlliance Motability, Liverpool
  • Helena Housing, St Helens
  • Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Preston, in partnership with Chorley & South Ribble Primary Care Trust (Leyland), Preston Primary Care Trust (Fulwood), Lancashire County Council Social Services (Kirkham), Preston College (Fulwood) and Runshaw College (Leyland)

Salford company First Choice Holidays in partnership with Guildford-based Blue Sky Consulting, received the City & Guilds' sponsored Collaboration award. This award recognises training which demonstrates effective collaboration between an employer and training provider in the North West.

Suzi Perry acknowledged the winners' achievements: "Every winner from the North West is an excellent example of what can be achieved through training. In my work I've seen many people achieve success in the sports arena because they've been committed to developing themselves and their skills.

"I'm delighted to see such a commitment alive and well in the North West and congratulate these winners on their well-deserved success. They're an inspiration to all of us about what can be achieved through training."

Co-chairs of the North West judging panel, Prof Laurie Wood (director of academic enterprise of the University of Salford) and Peter Cresswell (general manager of Siemens), congratulated the winners.

Prof Laurie Wood said: "I extend my warmest congratulations to these winners. These stories of personal and organisational success are an inspiration about what can be achieved through training."

Peter Cresswell said: "These winners show the breadth and depth and the results of the high quality of training which is happening here in the North West. Their example should be the beacon to encourage others in the region to invest in learning and development."

UK Skills runs the National Training Awards on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills. This year is the 20th anniversary of the Awards which were set up to celebrate individuals, businesses and organisations that have achieved outstanding success through training and development. The awards are sponsored by City & Guilds.
