Skills for Care announces award winners

Social care workforce development body, Skills for Care, has announced the winners of its Accolades awards scheme. The awards, designed to recognise excellence in social care workforce development, were presented at a ceremony at London's Landmark Hotel.

Skills for Care chair, Donald Hoodless OBE said: "I'd like to offer my sincerest congratulations to all the winners who have worked so hard to improve social care services through a wide variety of innovative projects. Their efforts demonstrate the kind of social care workforce development Skills for Care aims to encourage, and they are a great example to others."

The judging panel chose winners based on their ability to demonstrate successful implementation of Skills for Care's national training strategy, the GSCC Codes of Practice, Investors in People standards and the government's National Training Awards scheme. This year's winners included:

Best employer of up to 250 staff
Oaklands Community Services

Best employer promoting continuing professional development

Best training provider/assessment centre

Best in-house training provider/assessment centre
Brandon Trust

Best involver of service users/carers (adults)
New Vision Training

Most innovative and effective recruitment initiative
Barnsley Social Services Training and Development Section

Most innovative learning resource
Crowe Associates

Most effective partnership for workforce development
Quality Care Partnership

Most innovative model of work-based learning
Manchester Care Ltd, Learning and Development Department

Best involver of service users/carers (children)
The Learning and Development Team (Foster Care) Surrey County Council

Most effective workforce development programme in support of the foster care/social worker relationship
Staffordshire Family Placement Service

Barnsley Social Services Training and Development Section won the 'Winner of Winners' award for its work to help unemployed people from the Barnsley region develop a career in the caring professions.
