Training award for Kier Sheffield

Kier Sheffield has won a training and development award at the Sheffield Business Awards 2006.

Kier Sheffield was short-listed in two categories, and while pipped to the post in the Royal Mail Community Impact contest, it won the Learning and Skills Council Training and Development Award which is designed to recognise significant business improvement and success through the training and personal development of its workforce.

The awards are organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in association with the Sheffield Telegraph.

Kier Sheffield LLP is a limited liability partnership between Kier Group plc, the UK building, civil engineering and support services contractor, and Sheffield City Council.

The company says its staff have completed over 2,500 training days since September 2005. Opportunities provided include traditional modern apprenticeships and work experience for 14 to 16 year olds through the Construction Design Centre as well as the City Stewardship programme. These are complemented by newer initiatives such as the Construction JOBMatch scheme.

Kier Sheffield managing director Dave Sheridan said: "It’s no secret that Kier Sheffield, in common with the rest of Kier Group, places its greatest emphasis on people, whether they be community members or members of staff."

"Kier’s people are its best asset, our success depends both upon the realisation of their potential and their happiness and satisfaction in their work, so we do all we can to provide, encourage and motivate. It’s an investment that clearly pays off, for us, for them, and for our customers."
