Businesses invited to enter Edge Awards 2007

Educational foundation Edge is encouraging entries for the Edge Awards 2007, to win part of a £300,000 training-investment prize fund.

Now in their third year, the Edge Awards are designed to recognise and reward employers that offer practical learning opportunities for young people. It also aims to reward young individuals, nominated by their employers, who have demonstrated outstanding success in learning this year.

The awards are open to all employers in the UK, whether large or small, public, private or voluntary. To enter, organisations must demonstrate how they offer learning-by-doing opportunities in the form of apprenticeships, day release schemes, work placements or new initiatives.

Edge says the Awards will give away over £300,000, in cash, for employers to re-invest in their training, as part of their long-term campaign to raise the status and desirability of vocational and practical training among 14-25 year olds.

A panel of judges will assess applications in the three categories - Edge small business award, Edge business award and Practical learner award.

Three organisations and practical learners will be rewarded regionally and will then be entered for the National Awards, held on 22nd November at the Camden Roundhouse.

Applications can be made online at www.edgeawards.co.uk. The closing date for the Edge Awards is 29th June 2007.
