Last call for entries to the Apprenticeship Awards 2011

Outstanding apprentices and their employers are being urged to enter the Apprenticeship Awards, as the deadline for nominations is fast approaching.

The 2011 Apprenticeship Awards, run by the National Apprenticeship Service, celebrate the achievements of apprentices and employers from all over England. Applications opened on 18 January 2011 and close on 25 March 2011. The nomination categories are:

  • Apprentice of the Year
  • Advanced Apprentice of the Year
  • Higher Apprentice of the Year
  • Young Apprentice of the Year (school year 11 only)
  • Small Employer of the Year (1 - 24 employees)
  • Medium Employer of the Year (25 - 249 employees)
  • Large Employer of the Year (250 - 4,999 employees)
  • Macro Employer of the Year (5,000 + employees)

As well as the four employer category winners, the 24 best other employers in each category will be honoured in a published Top 100 Apprenticeship employers list.

Skills minister John Hayes said: "This government is raising the status of Apprenticeships because they are good for business, good for communities and good for young people who want to get ahead. I want to see more recognition for businesses that invest in skills - and the Apprenticeship Awards are a great opportunity to give our best employers and brightest young apprentices the credit they deserve."

The National Apprenticeship Service says over 1,100 people and organisations in England have already registered for this year’s Awards.

Simon Waugh, executive chair of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: "We are really delighted to see over 1,000 people have already registered for the Apprenticeship Awards 2011 but we know there are many thousands of impressive apprentices and inspirational employers in England so I urge them all to enter the Awards."
