Volkswagen Group UK implements personal development programme for apprenticesBrathay has announced its latest work with the Volkswagen Group UK - to deliver a personal development programme for every modern apprentice. As part of the 2003 programme, Brathay will design and deliver a programme as part of a three-year Adapted Modern Apprenticeship programme at Volkswagen Group United Kingdom Limited. It has been purposely designed to complement an intensive on-the-job and classroom-based technical study programme undertaken by all new technicians. Brathay's bespoke programme equips employees with the skills with which to unlock their full potential over the week long residential course, delivered at Brathay's custom training facility on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District. The programme aims to develop core competencies in personal confidence, customer focus and team working using a variety of personal assessment, coaching and team development activities. Exercises include Ghyll Scrambling - ascending and descending natural water features and an exercise known as 'The Pole', which involves jumping from the top of a 35 foot high telegraph pole, supported by ropes held by other members of the team. These experiential activities, combined with a range of assessment sessions and a final presentation to their managers equips the apprentices with a new way of thinking about their daily work. They are also an essential part of every employee's career development plan at the Volkswagen Group. Mike Wilkinson, Manager for the Volkswagen Group Apprentice Programme said: "At Volkswagen Group UK we understand that the automotive industry is changing and selected Brathay to ensure that all our candidates develop the personal skills they need to communicate effectively with both colleague and customers. By unlocking each apprentice's full potential Brathay ensures our apprentices drive themselves and the company forward." Godfrey Owen, Deputy CEO at Brathay said: "Each of our programmes is custom designed to meet individual client requirements - maximising its effectiveness. Our work with Volkswagen Group UK uses a blend of interventions to improve individual confidence, trust and support to create a highly skilled workforce for the company. "This approach, combined with an intensive technical development programme at the Volkswagen Group continues to produce some amazing results." The next programmes with the Volkswagen Group take place in May and August 2003. Brathay is also currently working with UK Skills to prepare a team of 40 UK apprentices for the World Skills Competition being held in Switzerland in June.
