Open university business school earns international accreditation

The Open University Business School has been granted accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

It already holds EQUIS accreditation granted by the European Foundation for Management Development (efmd) and its MBA programme has been accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) since 1986. According to the Open University Business School (OUBS) only nine of the 100-plus business schools in the UK are accredited by all three organisations.

The accreditation follows a comprehensive peer review of the School and its programmes and activities. AACSB International accreditation is granted only to those schools that satisfy the expectations that the business and academic communities attach to a wide range of quality standards.

OUBS Dean Prof Roland Kaye said the AACSB accreditation completed the quality approval circle. "Only a select group of business schools worldwide can boast the triple recognition and our students, staff and graduates can all be justifiably proud of this achievement", he said.

"Without doubt, our 15,000 MBA graduates and 30,000 current students are already aware of the quality of the School’s programmes and the high level of flexibility that studying with the School offers. The AACSB accreditation will serve to ensure that the wider business, education and public sector communities – to which our graduates and students are contributing so much – are also aware of this exceptional level of quality. The news is all the more gratifying given that the OUBS is the first School that concentrates exclusively on distance learning methods to have earned all three accreditations.

"We are also delighted to note that AACSB International highlighted the School’s contribution to making business and management education more widely available to all sectors of the community. The School’s Certificate in Accounting and undergraduate business studies programme are both particularly successful in attracting students from groups normally under-represented in business education."

The Open University Business School provides management development programmes delivered by supported distance learning to 30,000 students based in the UK and more than 40 countries
