Home > News > November 2004 > 05-Nov-2004 Association of MBAs hosts gala dinnerThe Association of MBAs is hosting a gala dinner for business schools and MBA graduates on Thursday November 11th at the Banqueting House, Whitehall. The annual Gala Dinner, sponsored by The Independent, also sees the presentation of The Independent MBA Student of the Year Award 2004 and the Best Marketing Practice Award. Guest speaker at the dinner will be Richard Parry-Jones, Vice-President and Chief Technical Officer of Ford Motor Company. "In response to those who question the continuing value and relevance of the MBA, the Association constantly seeks to recognise students or business schools who demonstrate innovation and who have truly made a difference to individuals or organisations," said Jeanette Purcell, CEO of the Association of MBAs. "The prizes for MBA Student of the Year and Best Practice in Marketing are an important means of celebrating success in business education and we are proud to welcome some outstanding winners this evening." The MBA Student of the Year Award, which is now in its seventh consecutive year, is designed to recognise individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and who are likely to go on to make a real contribution to their chosen field. Sir Paul Judge, President of the Association of MBAs, said: "With the media and others continuing to question the relevance of MBAs to organisational performance, it is more important than ever that we demonstrate the value an MBA education can bring to both individuals and employers and through the MBA Student of the Year Award we highlight the stories of exceptional individuals who have shown outstanding strengths and qualities and who will be future Ambassadors for the MBA." Short-listed Candidates for Student of the Year Award 2004 are:
The judging panel for the Student of the Year Award comprised corporate representatives and a representative from the Association of MBAs. The winner receives a cash prize of £1,000 and each of the three runners-up receives a cash prize of £500. In addition, all the finalists will receive a years free membership of the Association of MBAs. The Association currently accredits 91 business schools, 53 of these are outside the UK. Recent accreditations include: Aix-en-Provence (France), Dublin City University Business School (Ireland) and Miribis (Russia).
