Fund launched to send retail managers to summer school

Skillsmart Retail and Retail Trust have announced that they are to launch a fund to give thirteen retail managers the opportunity to attend this year's British Shops & Stores Association Summer School at Keble College Oxford.

The fund will cover the £1,000 required to attend and is open to retail managers from UK companies who have less than 250 employees.

The 6-day residential Summer School, to be held during August 2005, aims to give delegates the opportunity to deal with the problems and challenges encountered when running a retail business focusing specifically on people, money, merchandising and retail space. Working in groups, there are guest lecturers, issue driven discussions, team building events and the Summer School Ball.

Nigel Rothband, Chief Executive of Retail Trust, said: "We aim to give retail people the opportunities to make their lives at work more rewarding and our continued support for the Summer School does just that."

Retail Trust, who are supporting the Summer School for a second year, is a national charity for the retail industry associated trades.

Nigel Broome, Chief Executive at sector skills council Skillsmart Retail, added: "The Summer School provides an excellent opportunity for small business retailers throughout the UK to improve their bottom through acquiring new skills. Together with Retail Trust, we can offer even more opportunity to access this unique experience."
