Training help for Highland freight companies

Skills for Logistics, the Sector Skills Council for the Freight logistics industry, has received funding from the Scottish Executive Highlands and Islands Skills Fund to assist road freight companies with less than 250 employees to develop the skills of their management through the Scottish Management for Road Transport (SMART) initiative.

"Skills gaps happen at all levels in a company from new recruit to chief executive," commented Ian Hetherington, chief executive, Skills for Logistics. "This project will enable smaller operators to identify and address some of the skills gaps at management level within the organisation. Ultimately this should improve the profitability of the organisation."

Skills for Logistics is aiming to assist companies in identifying the key management skills deficiencies most affecting the company's profitability, develop a training plan to address the management skills gaps, and provide advice on accessing funding towards the cost of any management training programmes that are appropriate.

Road freight companies in the Highlands and Islands with less than 250 employees who want to find out more about this opportunity should contact Chris Campbell, Skills Development Manager, at chris.campbell@skillsforlogistics.org
