The programme's particpants, which will also include a number of First's managers, will work towards an MBA and full chartered status of the CILT. The emphasis of the programme is on self-directed learning and an intranet site has been built to provide delegates with support. Twenty graduates who are already working within the bus division in a range of junior and middle management roles have started the new programme. In addition, ten managers will join the programme in the autumn, along with four graduates who are starting their managerial career with First. Dave Kaye, deputy managing director of First's UK Bus division, said: "This is a fantastic programme. We are investing heavily in the development of our people at every level of the organisation. This development programme for graduates is an integral part of our learning and development 'ladders' approach and demonstrates our continuing commitment to providing business focused development that leads to formal qualifications." Lesley Parker, professional development operations manager with the CILT, said: "CILT(UK) is delighted to work with First on its people development programmes. As a professional Institute it is exciting and encouraging to be involved with an organisation that recognises the value of identifying and developing people who will be the leaders of tomorrow both within First and the profession. "Our role is to work with First to help realise its mission by providing sector-specific support for the 'student' and their colleagues through networking opportunities, research and information facilities and raising their awareness of and their standing within the logistics and transport sector."
