EMCC announces details of coaching and mentoring conference

The European Mentoring and Coaching Council has announced details of its 12th annual conference.

This event will take place at the UBS Conference Centre in Zurich over three days from November 30 to December 2 2005.

Conference Organiser Professor David Megginson said: "We have established a distinctly European feel to the conference, with latest developments from a range of European countries being explored and contrasted."

Plenary sessions include David Megginson and David Clutterbuck, who will be looking at the findings from their latest books on current trends and practices in coaching and mentoring, and Peter Hawkins whose latest Open University book on Supervision will be the basis of his paper.

The programme includes workshops on a wide range of topics including team coaching, talent coaching and E-mentoring, as well as an exploration of the role of leaders and followers using ballroom dancing, and a look at discovering dreams and aspirations through poetry, sculpture and creating images with fabrics.

Other workshops include addressing blame and envy in the boardroom, evaluation of developmental mentoring, and leaders as coaches. The organisers say there will also be opportunities to see how major organisations such as the BBC, Tesco, UBS, Unilever, HBOS and Lloyds TSB are using coaching and mentoring.

David Megginson said: "This conference serves the growing profession of coaching and mentoring; and, importantly, it also serves the wider mentoring and coaching community. The synergy at our conferences is always extraordinary - with professional coaches and mentors, corporate scheme organisers, voluntary sector, public service and academic researchers all mixing together and sharing their insights and enthusiasms."

He added: "The EMCC annual conference is known as the 'friendly one' because people are welcomed and made part of a growing community and because the sessions are made engaging and interactive in the mentoring or coaching way."

The main conference takes place on December 1 and 2, but a pre-conference event, including sessions from Nancy Kline, Sir John Whitmore, Liz Borredon and David Megginson, Bernd Schmidt and Jenny Rogers will take place on November 30 2005.
