Double honours for Skillsoft at the Institute of IT Training awards

SkillSoft received top awards in both e-Learning categories at the Institute of IT Training Awards last week for two very different e-Learning implementations delivered for Lunn Poly (TUI UK) and Hilton International.

First place for 'Internal e-Learning project of the year' went to SkillSoft and Lunn Poly for the development of a bespoke in–house e-Learning programme - constructed using SkillSoft’s IT course engine - to train 5,500 sales staff across 770 travel shops in the use of Lunn Poly’s new customer-facing booking system ‘Genie’.

Speaking at the event Ros Mackenzie, business design manager at Lunn Poly and head of the team responsible for the project, said: "We’re delighted to be sharing this award with SkillSoft. The team we worked with were so flexible and tuned in to our needs – even though we often had to adjust the brief at a moment’s notice.

"They actually designed a dedicated development site which allowed us to review and test the e-Learning content live at every stage - drastically reducing the timescales involved so that the impact of the training in our shops during our busy trading period was kept to an absolute minimum."

Hilton International and SkillSoft secured silver in the 'e-Learning project of the year' category for an international e-Learning initiative which brought both business and IT training to 80,000 employees across more than 65 countries. The size, scope and complexity of the project impressed the judges – together with the high number of users (83%) who said that the courses met their learning needs.

John Guthrie, head of international development opportunities at Hilton International commented: "Hilton and SkillSoft have a very successful partnership. They understand our business drivers and have worked tirelessly with us to make our e-Learning programme the success that it is. We have seen phenomenal usage rates across our organisation globally and the training programme is making a real difference to both our employees and our organisation. We were delighted to win this award and believe that it is a testament to our outstanding achievement to date."

Kevin Young, managing director of SkillSoft concluded: "Having won e-Learning project of the year last year with the NHS we didn’t expect to be going home again tonight with two of the highest accolades in the industry.

"The contrast between the two programmes demonstrates the importance of working in close partnership with customers and adopting a totally flexible approach when designing e-Learning solutions. It’s very satisfying to receive formal recognition for the business benefits e-Learning is delivering for both these organisations. Our thanks goes to everyone involved at Lunn Poly and Hilton for their ongoing collaboration and support."
