MRSA ‘Superbug’ course shortlisted for World of Learning Award

The organisers of the World of Learning Conference and Exhibition 2004 have announced that 'MRSA – You can make a difference' has been short listed for a World of Learning Award.

The course made the shortlist for Online Solution of the Year after demand from across the NHS culminated in licences being signed for its deployment across 282 NHS Trusts. This equates to approximately half of the NHS personnel in England.

"The World of Learning Awards are the pre-eminent standard in the industry", said Jim Reilly, Director of the World of Learning Awards 2004. "This reputation has been achieved by rigorous independent judging over many years. To be short-listed as a finalist puts a solution, venue or individual in the top echelons of excellence in the training industry, and to be named as the winner, adds the impartial stamp of approval of the whole industry."

Adrian Snook, Director of Corporate Development for the course provider The Training Foundation commented: "We were not surprised to hear that MRSA –You can make a difference had made the short-list. The judges and organisers are seeking entries that demonstrate good levels of take up and effective organisational results."

"The official cost of treating Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) is currently running at £1.1 billion pounds per annum. On the basis of official NAO (National Audit Office) figures it is estimated that around 100,000 patients a year are being infected. This equates to a cost of £110 per person but is probably a huge underestimate. If the modest cost of putting just one person through this course saves a single patient a year from acquiring an HAI, then this will save the NHS £110. When totalised this must surely represent the best Return on Investment being generated by any online course in the UK."

The Awards Gala and presentation will be held at the NEC, Birmingham on 17 November 2004, the first night of the World of Learning 2004 Conference and Exhibition.
