The challenge to be addressed is to demonstrate to employers and employer bodies how e-learning, in its broadest sense, can contribute to the development of skills and improved business performance. In her new role, Overton will drive this action plan forward, by increasing the collaboration between sector bodies and other stakeholders, and building on sector-based provision through the Skills for Business Network. Overton has over 17 years experience in the e-learning and distance learning industry during which time she has taken a leading role with e-Learning initiatives associated with the European Commission and contributed to e-learning recommendations for the UKs Learning and Skills Council (LSC) as a member of the Distributed and Electronic Learning Group, the advisory board to the LSC. There are currently 21 million people who use IT everyday at work. The work place e-learning action plan will focus on how organisations can add business value by harnessing their IT as training tool to help deliver the skills needed to increase business performance. The plan will also focus on the importance of engaging and motivating learners in an online environment. "I am thrilled at the focus that the government is now placing on driving the opportunity for work place e-learning," said Overton. "There already exists a vast amount of e-learning experience in the workplace. This role provides an opportunity to identify, build on and most importantly to share best practice in order to extend the business benefits of e-learning to a much wider business community."
