ADL’s Plugfest 9 draws 344 participants from 13 nations

The Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory’s (ADL Co-Lab’s) Plugfest 9 drew 344 participants from 146 organisations and 13 nations. The event took place at the end of February at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

"Plugfest 9 brought together learning software developers and content providers from government, industry and academia to discuss the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) 2004 edition and associated practices, procedures and standards," said Robert Wisher, Ph.D., Director of the ADL Initiative.

SCORM is a collection of specifications adapted from multiple sources designed to provide a comprehensive suite of e-learning capabilities that enable interoperability, accessibility and reusability of Web-based learning content.

Plugfest 9 keynote speakers were Robert Kahn, Ph.D., Chairman, CEO, President and founder of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives and winner of the 2004 A.M. Turing Award, for pioneering work on the design and implementation of the Internet’s basic communications protocols; and H. Wayne Hodgins, Director of Worldwide Learning Strategies, Autodesk Inc., Chair, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Learning Technology Standards Committee.

Professor David Wiley, Utah State University delivered the Workshop on SCORM Sequencing and Navigation (WoSS&N) keynote.

The workshop offered participants a forum for sharing successful designs and implementation examples of the sequencing and navigation capabilities of SCORM. Papers presented by workshop have been published in a Special Edition of the IEEE's Learning Technology Newsletter
