CIPFA launches online learning centre for members

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has unveiled an interactive online service to help their 13,500 members enhance and update their skills, and meet their continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

Eileen Cummins CIPFA's CPD Manager said: "When CIPFA staff and members met to agree the principles to develop the site, we said that it should be integrated, flexible, comprehensive, adhere to CIPFA's Statement of Expertise, minimise bureaucracy and create a learning community among CIPFA members. These principles have been rigorously tested by members throughout the CLC's development and I am certain that members will see this as they begin using the site."

Once into the site, CIPFA members can review their learning needs, create CPD objectives, and create and update their CPD plan.

The CLC will include technical and management material both from the CIPFA Group, and from a wide range of websites including those of Government departments and regulatory bodies.

In addition, the site will contain leadership and management-related learning materials developed by goodpractice.net, CIPFA's partner in the creation of the CLC.

Another feature of the site is the facility to identify online 'CPD buddies'. This is designed to enable members to share development plans with other CIPFA members, work colleagues and their employer, and create and contribute to online discussion groups. CIPFA expect this facility will also be used to enable sector-based groups to discuss government and other consultation documents and share and compare their analysis of implications.

Launching the CIPFA Learning Centre at the recent CIPFA Annual Conference in Manchester, CIPFA President-elect Diane Colley said: "CIPFA members have an enviable reputation for the way in which they support the public services, often working in highly influential roles. One of the many challenges for the future is to maintain this enviable position in the context of demanding work pressures and continuous change.

"By launching the new CIPFA Learning Centre today, CIPFA is demonstrating its dedication to developing members for the challenges of their profession. As a firm believer in CPD, I encourage all CIPFA members to log-in to the CIPFA Learning Centre to appreciate the wealth of information that is quite literally at their fingertips. The site has been developed with your needs in mind and is testimony to a fantastic partnership between CIPFA members and staff."
