Online induction for council starters

Brightwave has been chosen to develop an online induction programme for West Sussex County Council.

With more than 24,000 employees the Council serves more than 750,000 citizens in the south-east and provides a wide range of services from education to waste management.

"We induct on average 2,000 new staff every year and by using an online induction programme we can ensure that all new joiners can get up to speed quickly and cost effectively," said Dawn Howard, people development consultant for the West Sussex County Council.

Charles Gould, managing director for Brightwave, said: "We recommended that the Council use a staged approach starting with a CD-ROM for pre-joiners, a module for managers in charge of the new joiners, and a main course for new staff to take once they have started.

"It was also very important for West Sussex County Council that the whole programme is compliant with accessibility legislation and available to those without technology."
