Microsoft adds new courses to small business portal

Microsoft UK has added additional training courses to its online small business technology portal, Small Business +.

Small Business + provides a range of resources for small companies including IT support options and a suite of free personalised training courses.

The training courses are the first of a series of new online training courses that Microsoft will add to the Small Business + service.

Microsoft says small businesses can track their own training progress via the site and can come back to courses at their own convenience.

The new training courses cover:

  • Financial Management: Setting up your accounting and tracking businesses finances
  • Marketing: Getting publicity in the media
  • Sales: Finding, qualifying and managing sales leads
  • People Management: Managing employee performance and communicating effectively with employees

Clare Barclay, head of small business for Microsoft in the UK said: "In the UK we received feedback from small companies that training and IT support are areas where they would be keen to get additional information and support so that they maximize Return on Investment from current and future investments.

"We hope, in developing Small Business +, we have addressed some of this training need by giving advice and information to help increase efficiency and productivity."

Small Business + also provides small businesses with access to training courses on Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

John Dunsmure, managing director, British Chambers of Commerce Enterprises, said: "The combination of technology and business focused training courses offered on Small Business + in conjunction with the IT support function and the benefit of courses such as those provided by our own Chamber Skills Network will really deliver value to the small business community and help them see the greatest possible benefit from their IT investments."

Visitors complete a short registration to join Small Business +, gaining free access to some offerings that are personalised to their needs based on their registration information.
