SkillSoft wins Cable & Wireless contract

Online learning provider SkillSoft has won an annual end-to-end contract with telecoms company Cable & Wireless.

SkillSoft will be responsible for supplying generic e-learning content, managing and supporting in-house and bespoke e-learning material and administering Cable & Wireless' instructor-led training.

SkillSoft reports that in less than eight weeks its team has migrated the training from Cable & Wireless' existing learning management system to SkillSoft's learning portal, SkillPort. The new system has been branded 'iLeARN'.

At the same time, SkillSoft's portfolio of IT, management and business courses was uploaded onto iLeARN, together with complementary skill simulations, job aids, test preps, e-books and reference material.

Mike Booth, manager of e-learning services at Cable & Wireless, said: "Careful management of our cost base helps to maintain our competitive position. By migrating our learning infrastructure over to SkillSoft and creating iLeARN, we have been able to reduce operating costs by 65 per cent, whilst also providing a greatly enhanced model that meets the needs of our business.

"iLeARN is already getting a great response: around 25 per cent of our UK based colleagues used it within the first month alone, completing well over 1,000 hours of e-learning."

Kevin Young, managing director of SkillSoft added: "The need for flexible end-to-end people development solutions is becoming more and more apparent - particularly in the case of large, complex global organisations which need to respond quickly to rapidly changing business environments."
