Bourne to develop e-learning for East Sussex CC

Bourne Training has been awarded a contract to develop a portfolio of on-line induction courses for East Sussex County Council.

The courses will be delivered to council staff through the Council's corporate intranet and will include training on ethical standards, and equalities and diversity. Bourne is also developing a course on recruitment and selection for managers and HR personnel.

Leatham Green, assistant director: personnel and training at East Sussex County Council, said: "Ensuring our staff have the required skills and knowledge in these critical areas is essential. We have 15,000 employees across a number of Directorates and we've concluded that e-learning is an essential tool to ensure we get a consistent message to everybody when they join us.

"We're keen to explore new developments in training such as e-learning, to supplement the traditional classroom courses and induction manuals. The current induction training structure can also mean that staff don't have the 'big picture' of their role at the Council - we aim to challenge them and broaden their perspective through the e-learning courses."

The induction courses will focus on the legal requirements of council staff, council policies, and the approach and actions of staff to ensure they meet their obligations to their colleagues and customers.

Delivered alongside a range of reference sources, the e-learning will be supported by a custom-built student management system to provide management information on course usage and module quiz scores.

Mike Ditchburn, Bourne's managing director said: "We're delighted to have been awarded the contract to develop this high profile e-Learning portfolio and build on our strong relationship with East Sussex County Council.

"Our approach will help to bring what can be very dry subjects to life through case studies and examples learners can relate to. We're also keen that e-Learning should not be a passive experience so we'll expect learners to discuss prior experiences with colleagues and interact through scenarios and other challenges."

The courses are currently in development, with the first one due for launch in the fourth quarter of the year.
