UFI Charitable Trust opens for funding applications

UFI Charitable Trust are inviting applications for projects which are designed improve the delivery of adult and vocational learning through the use of digital technology.

Rather than funding student fees or the cost of staff to deliver courses, the Trust aims to fund projects that make use of 21st Century technologies to give more learners more access and ways to learn - and through this improve the success levels of adult vocational education and training.

Organisations looking for funding for their learning initiatives have until 31st of July to submit an outline of their project, via www.ufi.co.uk.

Selected applicants will then be invited to a further stage in September, where they will be asked for more detailed proposals and costings to demonstrate how their project will give people more chances to learn.

Ray Barnes, chair of UFI Charitable Trust said: "We are delighted that the Fund is now open for business. We believe the Fund can make a real difference to the provision of post 16 adult and vocational learning.

"We are particularly interested in scalable projects which meet the criteria in our 'Scaling Up' report, which identifies the key opportunities for improvement in current provision."

UFI Charitable Trust says these opportunities can be summed up under three main headings:

• Increasing the capability of those involved in running the vocational learning system
• Exploiting networks to bring together learners, learning content and learning professionals
• Harnessing digital technologies to support individualised and differentiated learning

Organisations across the FE sector, learning technology providers, and from the wider training and technology sector are expected to apply. The Fund is open to applicants across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but excludes Scotland.

UFI Charitable Trust says the Fund is not aimed at schools or pure research projects in universities but at practical, scalable ways to improve adult, vocational learning.
