Peter Collett and Sally Gunnell among speakers at HRD 2004

HRD 2004, CIPD annual Learning, Training and Development Conference and Exhibition, 20-22 April 2004, Olympia London.

Peter Collett, Big Brother psychologist and author will explore why actions speak louder than words at HRD 2004. Collett will draw on his experiences with Big Brother and use material from his new book The Book of Tells to help bosses focus on the messages they unwittingly send and understand the influence these might have on their employees.

The conference aims to show how success depends on what you do, what you say and the steps you should take in order to ensure employees develop with your company and improve the performance of your organisation.

HRD 2004 has over 40 seminars, linking case studies, interactive workshops and debates including:

  • Sally Gunnell, former Olympic athlete, motivational speaker and television presenter, on how to motivate yourself and your team
  • Camilla Aitchison, Director of Management Development at Dixons Group Plc, on how to make good leaders great
  • Kevin Warwick, Professor of Cybernetics at Reading University, on the quest for intelligence
  • Robin Sieger, Founder of Sieger International Limited, on creating a success culture

The event also marks the launch of CIPD's training and development survey 2004, which will include findings to show the impact of Government skills initiatives, how the economic situation is affecting training spend, what is being done to encourage and promote learning and what type of coaching organisations are using.

Over 300 providers of training, learning and development products and services will be taking part in the HRD 2004 Exhibition, which runs alongside the conference.

As well as new launches and on-stand activities, this year's show features a complimentary programme of interactive learning events, 'topic tasters' and presentations.
