What's happening outside the classroom?

The upcoming Learning Technologies 2005 Conference, at London Olympia 2, Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th January 2005, aims to show organisations how to influence learning outside of the classroom and in the place where most learning actually happens: the workplace.

'Beyond Training Delivery' led by Dr. Rob Yeung is one of the conference's four plenaries. It starts from the premise that at least 80% of learning at work takes place outside the classroom, and when people do enter the classroom, they are frequently mis-matched with the training they receive. The session then seeks to answer the question 'What can Learning and Development professionals do about this?'

Dr Yeung will look outside the formal classroom to examine how to augment standard training through an array of techniques such as guided experience, blended learning, peer mentoring, and simulations. He will also explore how to set appropriate learning targets through the use of psychological assessment and selection tools, analysing individuals' skills, attitudes, and behaviours.

Dr Yeung is a business psychologist and a Director at consulting firm Talentspace. He works with organisations on assessment and talent management projects. Dr Yeung has written seven books on management and is a frequent contributor to the Financial Times and the Guardian as well as broadcast media including BBC and CNN news.
