British Learning Association annual conference

The third annual conference of the British Learning Association (BLA) will take place on Wednesday 26th April 2006 at the Institute of Physics, London.

Under the working title 'The Great Training Robbery?' the BLA says the conference will start with an exposé of the failings of much of training and learning, citing what they see as all too frequent low achievement and success rates. The conference will then concentrate on the four themes of performance management, pedagogy, evaluation and marketing, as positive steps to support effective outcomes.

The speaker line-up at the conference includes:

  • Facing the problem - resolving the difficulties
Niall Gavin, IS training manager at First Group and Ashley Sterland, IT learning manager at DLA Piper
  • Pedagogy - is it sound and suitable for the needs of your learners?
Dr Bernard Scott, senior lecturer in electronically enhanced learning at Cranfield University (Defence Academy)
  • Personal pathways to develop performance - a recipe for overcoming chaos?
Maxine Clark, design manager, Group Learning and Development Services - Dept for Work and Pensions and Clare Roberts, managing director of Academee
  • Using Evaluation to Dynamically Steer Learning Programmes
Brian Sutton, director of learning at QA Training and Consulting
  • Marketing - getting people to use your services
John Salt, partner in The Fourth Level
  • Ensuring value in learning to deliver success
Nigel Paine, head of people development at BBC Training & Development

Brian Merison, general manager of the BLA said, "The programme shows the tremendous range and scope of organisations and individuals that have had to face the challenges associated with improving levels of achievement and success rates.

"We are extremely fortunate to have speakers who are able and willing to share their experiences and expertise with delegates to help them achieve successful outcomes."
