QIA announces details of first annual conference

The first annual conference of the Quality Improvement Agency for Lifelong Learning (QIA) will take place in Birmingham on 7-8 June 2006.

The QIA is a new organisation, to be launched on 5 April, which has been set up by government with the aim of providing a strategic focus for quality improvement in further education and training. The QIA is being formed out of the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA).

Although not all are confirmed at this stage, the QIA have announced the following keynote speakers:

  • Ruth Kelly, secretary of state for education and skills
  • Lord Sandy Leitch, chair, National Employment Panel
  • Mark Haysom, chief executive, Learning and Skills Council
  • Dame Kelly Holmes, double Olympic gold medallist

The QIA says the conference will cover a range of issues including managing change and encouraging innovation; maintaining focus on educational opportunity and purpose; and driving improvement throughout an organisation.

The conference is aimed at senior practitioners from work-based training organisations, further education colleges, adult and community education, secondary schools (post 16) and stakeholder organisations across the learning and skills sector.
