Training exhibition targets East London employers

An exhibition aimed at putting businesses in East London in touch with local training providers is to take place at West Ham Football Club, Upton Park on Tuesday 27 March 2007.

The East London Training Showcase is sponsored by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in London East and organised by the Individual Learning Company.

The organisers say the event will consist of three elements:

• Approximately 50 exhibitors of local training providers, from the public and private sector
• 15 training taster sessions covering a variety of subjects from IT skills, team building to Mandarin
• Three anchor events: 'Thames Gateway - Skilling Up for Business Opportunities', 'Train to Gain', and 'Building One Stop Shop (Boss) - East London '

Learning and Skills Council area director for London East, Mike Pettifer said, "The Showcase is an opportunity for local employers to discover directly for themselves the rich range of training provision available in East London and ensure their staff have the right skills to take advantage of the huge investment being made in the regeneration of the Thames Gateway and the hosting of the 2012 London Olympics.

"Through its Train to Gain programme the LSC is able to offer direct support, to employers through a network of independent Skills Brokers.

"The Skills Brokers, who will be available at the event, work directly with an employer to identify business related training needs and act as a broker to identify potential providers to meet those needs. The Skills Brokers can also give advice about the availability of government funding and other support available to employers."

The East London Training Showcase is to take place at West Ham Football Club, Upton Park on Tuesday 27 March 2007 from 10am to 4pm. For more information, visit: www.trainingshowcase.org
