This year the CIPD will also host the biennial World HR Congress on behalf of the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations on 14 April. The CIPD says the combined programme will reflect the day to day and strategic challenges facing learning and development professionals, alongside a focus on the specific issues for learning and development professionals associated with the increasingly globalised economy. Victoria Winkler, CIPD learning, training and development adviser, said: "With the onset of the credit crunch and concerns about the global economy, 2008 will be a challenging time for learning and development professionals facing the prospect of budgetary squeezes. "Yet it is the application of knowledge and skills that drives profit in the private sector, delivers services in the public sector and achieves shared objectives in the third, or voluntary, sector. Investing in learning and development in tougher economic times may be even more important than in the more benign circumstances of recent years. "This year's HRD Conference and Exhibition and the CIPD hosted World HR Congress will be a perfect opportunity for people management and development professionals to share their knowledge, so they are well equipped to deliver for their organisations at a time when belts are being tightened." The CIPD says over 250 suppliers will take part in the HRD 2008 Exhibition which runs alongside the conference.
