Learning Revolution Festival to launch in October

The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) is launching The Learning Revolution Festival in October. BIS says the Festival will be a celebration of informal adult learning and its benefits for individuals, families, businesses and communities.

Between 6-31 October 2009 a wide range of events, such as taster sessions, workshops, demonstrations, performances, competitions and classes, will take place across England.

Libraries, galleries, adult education providers, sports clubs, voluntary arts organisations, reading groups, University of the Third Age groups and many other organisations are getting involved by showcasing their activities.

By highlighting what's available, BIS hopes the Learning Revolution Festival will encourage people from every walk of life to get involved in learning, whether it's by joining a book club, taking part in a dance class in a community centre or joining a class at the local adult education centre.

Kevin Brennan, minister for further education, skills and consumer affairs, said: "Informal learning brings proven mental, physical and social benefits and the Learning Revolution Festival is all about highlighting these benefits for communities.

"Through the Learning Revolution White Paper commitments, the Government is doing its best to encourage organisations, groups and individuals to get involved and get learning.

"Whether it's opening up space for a local learning group or club or learning something new yourself, there are loads of ways to make the most of the festival in October."
