Lord Puttnam to open Learning Technologies Conference

Lord David Puttnam, Chancellor of the Open University and award-winning film producer, is to open January's Learning Technologies Conference discussing 'Living in a digital world: meeting the crucial skills needs of the future'.

According to the organisers, Lord Puttnam will set out why the UK needs workplace learning more than ever if it is to remain competitive in an increasingly globalised age. He will examine the huge potential of digital technologies to help meet the crucial skills needs of the future, and the ways in which they are already transforming the nature of learning.

Lord Puttnam will consider the opportunities presented by digital technologies for learning professionals. He will make the case that the expertise of learning professionals will be more valuable than ever in a full digital world, although the nature of the interaction between those professionals and learners will change significantly. He will conclude by placing these developments within the broader context of massive economic and societal change.

Conference chair Donald H Taylor said: "January's Learning Technologies Conference will reflect a fascinating twelve-month period of change in learning. In a very short time web 2.0 and digital technologies now find themselves crucially affecting the future of learning and we're looking forward to David Puttnam opening the conference and setting the scene for two days of debate."

Learning Technologies 2010 takes place on 27 and 28 January 2010 at Olympia 2, London.
