The event, based in Manchester for the third consecutive year, encompasses a mix of seminars, workshops and case study examples. Sir Terry Leahy, former CEO of Tesco, will deliver the opening keynote speech, entitled 'Leadership, People Management and Growth'. Marcus Buckingham, business consultant and author of Standout, is delivering the closing keynote and will focus on helping delegates identify, harness and reproduce behaviours that lead to high performance. One of the keynote panels will tackle the theme of innovation on the second day of the conference. The session, 'Creating a Culture of Innovation through your People', will discuss the UK's increasingly ideas-based economy and how organisations can create competitive advantage through building and sustaining cutting-edge innovation. Jackie Orme, CIPD chief executive, said: "As we face new and challenging economic times, success requires a focus on not just delivering today, but also on shaping sustainably high performing organisations. "As always, the Annual Conference provides examples of leading edge practice and fresh thinking that you can apply directly to your own business. "The programme focuses on the pivotal role HR can play in delivering the insight necessary to innovate and drive our organisations forward. "Most of all, the conference offers you the chance to focus on the ways you and your teams can deliver even greater, more lasting impact on your organisation's business performance." The CIPD says it has introduced four new conference streams for this year's event: creating high performing organisations; building HR capability; future-fit for business; and models for progressive leadership. The conference will cover a wide range of topics including: leading and managing the HR function; organisation development; learning and talent development; performance and reward; resourcing and talent planning; and employee engagement. The CIPD has a range of flexible ticket options available for the conference. This year's exhibition includes a series of free bite-sized learning sessions on the exhibition floor and new exhibition 'hubs' focusing on recruitment and talent management, employee benefits and HR software. The CIPD's Annual Conference and Exhibition takes place at the Manchester Central Convention Complex from 8-10 November 2011.
