National Training Awards 2004 - open for entries

The 2004 National Training Awards have opened for entries and UK Skills is encouraging companies and individuals to enter to ensure the investment they have made and the success they have achieved through training is recognised and rewarded.

With more and more employers recognising the real long-term value of training, the Awards attracted over 1,000 entries from a wide range of industries in 2003. UK Skills, which runs the Awards on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), hopes 2004 will be their most successful year ever.

Winners in 2003 included Lloyds TSB and Royal & SunAlliance Insurance plc from the banking and insurance sector, Goldsmiths Group and J Sainsbury plc from retail and Stena Line and First Great Western Trains from the transport sector. Public sector winners in 2003 included National Asthma Campaign, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, University of Swansea and the Belfast Education and Library Board.

The National Training Awards recognise and reward those who have developed new skills and achieved lasting excellence and success through training and work-place development.

The deadline for entries to this year's National Training Awards is 30 April 2004 and any firm or individual can enter. A series of free half-day NTA workshops, run by experienced training professionals, are being run across the UK to help formulate entries.

Entering a National Training Award has many benefits, rewarding hard work as well as enhancing a company's professional reputation and helping them build competitive advantage. The Awards also help companies to evaluate the benefits of their investment in training and development, enabling them to benchmark achievements.

Linda Ammon, Chief Executive of UK Skills said: "The National Training Awards continue to attract impressive entries across the entire spectrum of industry sectors, from IT to manufacturing to the voluntary sector and from companies of all sizes, FTSE 100s to SMEs. However, there are thousands of organisations in the UK that are achieving real business success through their commitment to training. I would encourage them to enter the Awards so that their commitment can be recognised."
