Sussex construction companies presented with £5000 IiP training award

Construction companies in Sussex are leading the way in the industry in the UK when it comes to Investors in People (IiP) recognition.

So far almost 50 companies have received the standard in the county in the past five years. The latest four construction companies were presented with their Investors in People (IiP) status at Singing Hills Golf Club in West Sussex. The encouragement for business improvement leading to IiP is being led by CITB-ConstructionSkills, Sussex Enterprise and Surrey Business Link in partnership.

The presentation took place during the first day of the 'Blueprint for Building Performance' Programme, which is a series of four full-day workshops to generate awareness of the programme. Blueprint has been created specifically for construction companies and has been developed in collaboration with key construction organisations to provide a step-by-step framework for enhancing business performance through improving contributions of people. The programme has also helped these construction companies throughout Sussex achieve their Investors in People status.

Mark Froud Chief Executive of Sussex Enterprise presented the Investors in People awards to: David Johns Associates, Elysian Construction Ltd, Progress Contractors Ltd and Build it (Construction).

David Higgins, Training Advisor for CITB-ConstructionSkills commented: "We are pleased our partnership with Sussex Enterprise and Surrey Business Link has helped so many companies in the region achieve their IiP status through the Blueprint programme."

When the Company achieves IiP status they receive a grant of £5000 from CITB-ConstructionSkills. This additional funding was established by CITB-ConstructionSkills towards the end of last year. There is growing commitment from CITB-ConstructionSkills to help more companies to recognise the importance of achieving the Investors in People standard.

A further investment of £30,000 has been contributed to the project from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). SEEDA has invested in excess of £500 million in urban and rural regeneration schemes, and in initiatives to promote the development of skills, business competitiveness, investment and innovation.

Gilly Bartrip, Head of Sector Skills and Adult Learning at SEEDA said "SEEDA are delighted to be involved in such a dynamic project. Blueprint provides companies, particularly small to medium size enterprises, with an excellent opportunity to experience for themselves the benefits of business planning. It also highlights the significance of linking productivity and skills training".
