GoSkills issues call for Stakeholder Board Members

GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council in development for passenger transport, has called on industries and relevant bodies in the sector to get actively involved in skills development by applying to join a new GoSkills Stakeholder Board. The Stakeholder Board will assist the GoSkills main Board by overseeing day-to-day skills matters on behalf of industries within its footprint: Aviation, Bus and Coach, Community Transport, Transport Planners, Driving Instruction and Taxi/PHV.

Peter Huntington, GoSkills Chief Executive said, "The passenger transport sector has a vital contribution to make to the economic and social well-being of the UK. Ensuring that its staff and management are suitably qualified and fully equipped with the right skills is essential. GoSkills is at the forefront of meeting these challenges. Now we need imaginative and committed individuals to join our Stakeholder Board. We want industry's insight and we need them to make their views known. The positions offer the chance to influence the skills dimension that will drive the passenger transport sector forward."

The company is inviting applications from candidates with a senior managerial background and a record of achievement within or of on behalf of their industry. Members will be required to dedicate up to six days per year. Four Stakeholder Board meetings will be held annually, and there may also be opportunities to contribute to other specialist advisory or industry groups. Positions are on a voluntary basis, although expenses will be reimbursed in full.

In addition to the Stakeholder Board, GoSkills is also recruiting for members of industry specific, national and regional groups. Applicants wishing to join either the Stakeholder Board or any of the other groups, should send their CV and a covering letter to: Mike Sims - Policy and Development Manager, GoSkills, Concorde House, Trinity Park, Solihull, B37 7UQ by Monday 13 September 2004.
