The aim of National Construction Week is to raise awareness of the construction industry among young people, and to illustrate the range of careers the industry has to offer. Hundreds of events are happening at schools, colleges, construction sites and offices across the UK from 6-13 October. Many of the events offer young people a "come and try" approach so that they can gain first hand experience of a career in construction. ConstructionSkills estimate that 465,000 new recruits will be needed in the construction industry over the next 5-years to meet demand. "The trend in recent years has shown many more young people turning to construction as their chosen profession," said Julian Humphreys of ConstructionSkills. "However growing demand for construction means that there is still a skills shortage. It is therefore incredibly important to raise the profile of the industry amongst young people and to show them that the range of jobs on offer can meet their career aspirations."
