SummitSkills forms industry and sector interest groups

SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for building services engineering, has formed a number of Industry Interest Groups (IIGs) and Sector Interest Groups (SIGs) in collaboration with employers across the UK.

The four IIGs; electrotechnical, heating & ventilation, air conditioning & refrigeration and plumbing, will focus on their industry specific skills issues. Each of the five SIGs will be concerned with one key trans-sector issue such as health & safety; multi-skilling; diversity and equal opportunities; and careers.

Keith Marshall, chief executive, SummitSkills said: "The complexity of our sector was a major consideration in the design of the IIGs and SIGs. We identified that the most appropriate and effective method to quickly and effectively relay information to the SummitSkills board was through the formation of these groups. The proposals provided by these groups will be based on informed decisions and therefore facilitate the development of robust strategies to address all the skills issues."

All levels of employers are welcome to join the IIGs and SIGs, particularly sole traders and small businesses, as well as under represented groups, such as women, ethnic minorities and disabled people, along with manufacturers, unions, education and training providers and professional bodies.

Employers can be involved in interest groups at different levels and contribute via meetings, email or post.
