Heinz launches Learning Academy at Luton factory

Food company Heinz has launched a new learning centre at its Luton factory.

The Heinz Learning Academy, which features a fully equipped IT suite, is the result of a £50,000 joint investment by Heinz, the Learning and Skills Council Bedfordshire and Luton and the GMB Union. The facility will offer a range of courses including English, Maths and IT.

"This is a big investment for us but we believe in investing in our staff to help them improve their lives,"said Graham Trevor, site HR Manager.

"We also want to be as flexible as possible with our learning programme, so as well as providing academic courses we will offer lifestyle learning on subjects such as yoga and aromatherapy."

Following the opening of the Heinz Learning Academy earlier this month, Jim McGivern, Chairman at the Learning and Skills Council Bedfordshire and Luton said: "We are glad to be supporting Heinz in this fantastic initiative. By investing in training and staff development, companies can create a more dedicated, motivated and skilled workforce which enables them to promote internally, reduce turnover and improve business."
