The merger is designed to provide a unified approach to skills development across the passenger transport sector and takes place after detailed negotiations between the two bodies and consultation with the train operating companies. Announcing the decision, Chris Moyes, GoSkills Chairman, said, "I am confident that by combining CfRS and GoSkills expertise we will be able to continue to improve the service to the rail industry. We will be working in partnership with companies and operators, listening, researching and responding to their skills needs to meet the challenge of creating passenger friendly services." GoSkills has appointed Frank Robertson as its Rail Strategy Manager to brief industry figures on what the change will mean for companies, employees and members. GoSkills received its licence to operate from the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA) in October 2004. Its sector coverage encompasses aviation, bus, coach, chauffeurs, taxi and private hire, community transport, rail, trams, driving instructors and transport planners.
