Home > News > March 2005 > 01-Mar-2005 New Chair for People 1stPeople 1st, the Sector Skills Council for the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industries, have appointed a new Chair - Don Davenport, Chief Executive Officer, UK and Ireland Division, Compass plc and Fellow of the Hotel and Catering International Management Association. "Compass plc remains one of our most stalwart corporate supporters, for which we are very grateful. As voice of the industry, we are only as strong as the commitment and contribution of the employers we represent. " Don Davenport commented, "I am delighted to be appointed as Chair of People 1st. The development of skills is something I continue to be passionate about. Ours is a very vibrant industry contributing a significant sum to the wealth of the economy. It is incumbent on us all to ensure that we continually innovate and deliver training programmes that are relevant to and valued by employees in the hospitality, leisure and tourism sectors. Our role at People 1st is to champion a joined-up approach between education, employers, government and training organisations that meets the needs of the industry and subsequently raises the level of trained people in our industry."
