And, according to the Campaign for Learning, the day to do it is 26th May 2005 - National Learning at Work Day. Through just one day of workplace learning, the Campaign for Learning, co-ordinators of the National Learning at Work Day, hope employers will begin to look behind the fun to see the business benefits of staff development. Last year, hospitals, universities, voluntary groups, government departments and local councils joined big blue chip companies and small family run businesses to give employees a break from routine to see what can be achieved through learning. Reaching reluctant learners, bringing colleagues together from different departments, discovering hidden talents and increasing awareness of current training opportunities are just some of the benefits reported by participants. The Inland Revenue, Royal Bank of Scotland, First Direct and Birmingham International Airport are among the regular supporters of Learning at Work Day, which is sponsored by the Learning and Skills Council, the Department of Trade and Industry, the NHSU, Learndirect and the Get On Campaign. According to the Campaign for Learning, the key to a successful Learning at Work Day is making sure the learning is fun and right for the individual organisation. Whether it's twenty-minute sessions or a full day workshop, the Campaign for Learning say they can help organisations put their training ideas into practice on 26th May.
