Sector Skills Council launches career planning tool

Improve, the food and drink Sector Skills Council, has launched an on-line career planning tool designed to provide advice, information and guidance for the sector.

'Roots' is part of Improve's new website which contains information on recruitment, training and skills in the food and drink industry.

The new tool includes a self-assessment section designed to help users discover their strengths and weaknesses, and assess their skills. It also offers details on food and drink related courses and how they can be funded. Other features include details on careers events; case studies for careers; and research and labour market information.

"Like any other web site, ours will build and develop as more information is added to it," said Jack Matthews, chief executive of Improve.

"We are dedicated to meeting the needs of employers and we have created the web site on their behalf. So naturally we welcome input from employers, in terms of ideas for making it better, and also in terms of useful content that fairly and accurately represents the sector.

"One of the ideas we are working on at the moment is to introduce a bulletin board where employers can post information about job vacancies."
