Launched this month, the new vocational qualifications promote standards relating to 'Carry & Deliver Goods', 'Traffic Office' and 'Storage and Warehousing'. Ian Hetherington, Chief Executive of Skills for Logistics, said: "Vocational skills developed through these new logistics focused qualifications are key to the future of our industry. It is important that the skills requirements of employers are addressed to ensure that industry gets what it needs from its future workforce." These new standards will be administered and communicated to training centres by Awards UK and are available immediately. La Maison des Sorbets Foods Ltd is one of the first employers to enrol for these new vocational qualifications. Their General Manager, Phil Darvell, said: "We fully support the work of Skills for Logistics and Awards UK in developing these 'appropriate' standards that address existing training gaps. Industry has been crying out for these sort of 'skill' specific qualifications and any form of vocational training that improves our ability to operate in a global market place has got to make good business sense." Carry & Deliver Goods is aimed at drivers of light vehicles, vans, motorcycles or pedal cycles whose job role involves multi-drop deliveries, customer interaction and in some cases, dealing with financial transactions. It is available as a Level 2 S/NVQ . Traffic Office is aimed at candidates involved with planning and organising the land transport and movement of goods. Skills for Logistics say that the qualification allows progression from Level 2 to Level 3 and provides National Occupational Standard (NOS) based assessment of Transport Managers against the requirements of the EU directive for the professional competence of Transport Managers.
